Little Baby Bunny

Fiction by Candon Dionello

Rabbits (Les Lapins) by Henri-Charles Guérard, Courtesy National Gallery of Art, Washington

A little baby bunny got hit by a bus in front of the boarded-up psycho-killer house we told each other stories about.

The bunny was curled up like he was in his mama’s belly, but he was on the street. We poked him with a stick until it was boring, and Kris picked him up by the legs and threw him in the creek. He made a little splash, and we all made pretend like it wasn’t sad.

We grew up and worked at convenience stores and moved away and stopped telling stories about the psycho-killer house.
