Submission Guidelines

We are now accepting submissions for Issue #5 of Arrival, and we are excited to announce that we are trying something new this time around: A Flash Fiction Issue that will also feature an interview with the fantastic Kathryn Mockler, one of the best writers of flash in this country.

If you are a postsecondary student attending a writing program in Canada, please send us your best short, short story of 250 words (or fewer) by midnight on March 11, 2026! Your story can be about anything and everything. We are excited to read and consider your work for Arrival Magazine's first-ever Flash-Fiction Issue, which will publish online in April 2026.

We take submissions for future issues on a rolling basis.

There is no fee to submit. Please note we only accept one submission per writer per issue. We are accepting original, unpublished work from students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate postsecondary creative writing programs in Canada. We are also accepting original, unpublished artwork from students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate postsecondary art programs in Canada.

Short Stories: 2500 Words max
Creative Nonfiction (memoirs, personal essays, lyric essays): 2500 Words  max
Poetry: Up to 5 pages or up to 5 poems

Artwork: 5–8 pieces

Written Work

●           Please send in your writing submission by completing the Submittable Form here.

●           Submissions should be in .doc or .docx format.

●           Short stories and creative nonfiction submissions should be double-spaced.

●           Please provide your email, a short bio of 50-150 words, and the name of your creative writing program.

●           We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.

 Artwork

●           Please send in your artwork submission by completing the Submittable Form here.

●           Images of pieces should be saved as individual high quality jpegs (minimum 1000px wide)

●           If possible, include a .doc or .docx format file with the specs for each piece (title, medium, dimensions, year it was created, artist’s [your] name).

●           When submitting a photograph of work created in a non-digital medium (painting, sculpture, etc.), aim for clarity and consistent lighting in your image of the piece (no shadows/glare and highest resolution possible).

●           We are not accepting photography submissions at this time.

●           Please provide your email, a short bio of 50-150 words, and the name of your art program.

●           We do not accept AI generated artwork.

●           We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.
