FLASH FICTION

Dear Readers,

Welcome to our fifth issue: Flash Fiction.

We did it! We created an issue in a month! And lightning must’ve struck twice because we received the most submissions we’ve ever had for an issue, and the most growth on our social media pages. We are so grateful for all of you!

For our last issue, the previous publication cycle got away from us, so we had to decide whether to take on the challenge of building an entire issue in a month or wait until the next school year. Our fantastic team didn’t hesitate for one second; we wanted to build on the momentum.

With our fourth-year students facing the stresses of their final semester and gearing up for graduation, many of us have stepped into new roles and hit the ground running! We love to learn by fire, and we have no doubt that the new leadership is capable of building on the success we’ve generated over the last month and a half.

This issue was unthemed, so we’ve welcomed pieces exploring a wide range of interesting narratives. Still, from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, threads of grief, a quiet solitude, and the unexpected connect the pieces and our contributors’ voices. Whether it be crafting a short, short story or a magazine issue in a flash, some of the best creativity comes from the brief. Thank you to our contributors for their wonderful work.

In this issue, you will also find an interview with the talented Kathryn Mockler, a gifted poet and short-story writer, offering insight into the magic and often-overlooked intricacies of each craft.

We’d like to thank our fantastic team for rising to the occasion and the undergraduate writing community. The energy surrounding the magazine during the month it took to put this issue together was palpable, and we’re excited to see where it goes moving forward.

Sincerely,
The Arrival Editorial Collective
